THE BOGOF-BEING ONLY GREAT OF FINNESSE

I recently attended the BOGOF (BEING ONLY GREAT OF FINNESSE) second edition  at the Hilton Hotel Nairobi and even though i did not have company ' i met me some amazing souls and had the time of my life. Funny how you meet people with common interests and become such good friends. That kinda happened to me last Saturday. My partner in crime the lovely Keshie was a no show since she had to go for a baby shower.Anywho she came through after it ended and we had a good time cheesing for the camera and some pep talk (girlfriends always have time for that).

The BOGOF was incredible apart from the timing which was a little off' lol. The MC miss Adele Onyango did an awesome job. Most of the perfomers were musical like a band that wowed the s*** out of me called ' The Yellow Light Machine (hope i got that right') , some hip hop from Kalimani, poems from The Lost Soul Child and a guy group namely Socks covering an acapella version of Swedish House Mafia (Save the World) , and a couple more'

Having been there way before the event started'  i chatted up miss Georgia (Real name;Linda) she is actually a pretty awesome person so i learnt. She did a Mya Angelou Poem (Still i Rise) and her astounding 'Georgia poem' oooh Georgia....when i hear that poem, i get goose bumps' always.

So for the event i choose a pop of colour' mustard yellow palazzo pants and a royal blue vintage blouse. I am a certified colour freak (incase you havent noticed)lol... colour splashes make me feel incredible alive and happy and that counts for something' right!

Anywho i leave y'all with snippets from the BOGOF' and Mya Angelous' poem 'Still I rise'

Enjoy your week lovies'

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

DEAR MOM' Classy, stylish' you've still got it going on.....Belated Happy Mother's Day: Love Sue

Hello lovies’

So last Sunday was the glorious Mother’s day everyone was gushing about and by everyone i mean ‘face book ‘ twitter …you name it’ So the next day there was this placard doing rounds on Facebook’ that said’ I normally don’t tell my mom often how much I love her but when I do…trust me it’s not on Facebook!’ I can bet you a majority who liked that placard were dudes (hahaha’ how original’)….seriously I see nothing wrong with anyone declaring they love their mama on social media….yeah its overrated but so are so many other things…any who whatever sails your boat!

I on the other hand, am such a mummy’s girl; I put up a picture on the D-day just for the hang of it and am about to put up a whole lot more….lols. Thing is everybody has their own way of relating with the most significant woman in their life, and only you and her understand it. My mom and I have learnt to be open with each other through the years. It didn’t use to be that way but with time I have come to know more about this woman who fought tooth and nail to see me through life.
It will never be perfect , show me a mother  daughter relationship that is’ coz we get on each other’s last nerve a couple of times but truth be told I wouldn’t trade her for Oprah. Not now not ever…. (Best believe)

So setting a day aside to celebrate her, to shower her with goodies’ to make her feel glad to be a mommy, to relish her favorite cake (horribly iced; retreats in corner and hides) lol and to just be with her isn’t a ploy by marketers to get us to splurge on all things ‘mother’ that is so far-fetched….it is a day to let her feel that all she is’ and ever will be is special’ truly incredibly special’

I Heart you mom’ and to all beautiful mommies out there’ Hope you all had a beautiful Mother’s Day’

I leave y'all with an excerpt from the blog ' Every little beautiful piece'

enjoy darlings'
To those who gave birth this year to their first child—we celebrate with you

To those who lost a child this year – we mourn with you

To those who are in the trenches with little ones every day and wear the badge of food stains – we appreciate you

To those who experienced loss through miscarriage, birth, failed adoptions, or running away—we mourn with you

To those who walk the hard path of infertility, fraught with pokes, prods, tears, and disappointment – we walk with you. Forgive us when we say foolish things. We don’t mean to make this harder than it is.

To those who are foster moms, mentor moms, and spiritual moms – we need you

To those who have warm and close relationships with your children – we celebrate with you

To those who have disappointment, heart ache, and distance with your children – we sit with you

To those who lost their mothers this year – we grieve with you

To those who experienced abuse at the hands of your own mother – we acknowledge your experience

To those who lived through driving tests, medical tests, and the overall testing of motherhood – we are better for having you in our midst

To those who have aborted children – we remember them and you on this day

To those who are single and long to be married and mothering your own children – we mourn that life has not turned out the way you longed for it to be

To those who step-parent – we walk with you on these complex paths

To those who envisioned lavishing love on grandchildren -yet that dream is not to be, we grieve with you

To those who will have emptier nests in the upcoming year – we grieve and rejoice with you

And to those who are pregnant with new life, both expected and surprising –we anticipate with you

This Mother’s Day, we walk with you. Mothering is not for the faint of heart and we have real warriors in our midst. We remember you.
